Health & Safety Officer

Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services (KGCFS) is a designated Child Welfare Service delivering Child Protection Services within seven member First Nations in the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin. KGCFS honours and supports our families’ and community’s inherent authority to care for their children based on unity, traditions, values, beliefs, and customs. Preference will be given to Anishinaabe Candidates, please self-identify in your application.

OVERVIEW

The Safety and Health Officer works closely with all levels of management and employees within the office environments to ensure safe work practices and policies and manages disability programs to ensure that employees receive appropriate benefits and employees return to work with disabilities are managed effectively. Also, develop and review health and safety rules, policies, and procedures following the Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services Vision, Mission, and Core Values, government regulations, and legislation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University Degree or College diploma in Human Resource Management or appropriate field.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate or equivalent are preferred.
  • Possess current First Aid certificate
  • Have a class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s License, access to a personal vehicle and be able to travel.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES

  • Understanding of current legislation, Codes of Practice, Bulletins, and other safe work practice requirements and recommendations.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn relevant legislation Ontario Building Code, Fire Protection Standards, and Occupational Health and Safety Act to develop and/or enhance skills and confidence with building systems.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of property building operations and systems.
  • Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office software including Excel (spreadsheets, pivot tables), PowerPoint (graphics), and Word.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Given the traditional practices of the Anishinabek, from time-to-time exposure to wood smoke and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweet grass, sage, or cedar, may occur within the work setting.
  • Must be willing to comply by KGCFS COVID 19 Vaccination Policy
