The Downtown Sudbury Business Improvement Area (BIA) is seeking a dedicated Operations Intern for an 18-month contract!

This immersive internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the logistical backbone of downtown events and the overall aesthetic appeal of our core. You will gain invaluable experience in event operations, inventory management, and downtown revitalization initiatives.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Event Logistics: Providing crucial logistical support for a wide range of downtown events, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
  • Inventory: Organizing, managing, and maintaining the BIA’s inventory of essential event equipment, including tents, fencing, sound systems, tables, chairs, and more. This includes tracking equipment, ensuring its proper functioning, and coordinating repairs when necessary.
  • Setup & Takedown Support: Assisting event organizers with the efficient and safe setup and takedown of event equipment.
  • Maintenance & Storage: Implementing and adhering to a system for the proper maintenance, cleaning, and secure storage of all BIA event equipment.
  • Graffiti: Contributing to the downtown’s visual appeal through proactive graffiti mitigation efforts.
  • Winter: Assisting with supplemental snow removal initiatives to ensure safe and accessible pedestrian areas during the winter months.
  • Street Games: Managing the infrastructure for downtown street games, including setup, maintenance, and ensuring their availability and safety.
  • Coordinator: Coordinating logistics for various downtown initiatives, ensuring all necessary resources are in place.
  • Team Player: Collaborating effectively with event organizers, BIA staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Proactive Problem Solver: Identifying potential logistical challenges and proactively developing solutions.

Who are we looking for?

You are a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills. You possess a proactive and responsible work ethic, the ability to follow instructions carefully, and a genuine passion for contributing to the positive development of your community. You are comfortable with physical tasks and have a keen eye for detail. A basic understanding of inventory management and event logistics is an asset.

Eligibility Requirements (mandatory)

  • be unemployed or underemployed youth (person aged 30 and under);
  • have graduated within the last three years with a degree, diploma or certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution;
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • have not previously participated as a youth intern in any federal or provincial internship program with pay for a period of six months or more; and
  • not be related to the directors, officers or managers of the organization.

Position: Operations Intern
Contract Duration: 18 Months
Hours: 35 Hours per Week
Pay: $20/Hour
Location: Primarily based at 115 Larch Street, Sudbury, ON, with work occurring at various downtown event locations.
