John Island Camp
Everyone should have the opportunity
to make endless summer camp memories.
Explorer Canoe Trip- Ages 13-15
This 9 day canoe trip in the rugged North Country of Ontario is designed for young adventurists, future leadership participants, and Youth Campers who want a taste of something a bit different. The Explore Program allows participants to continue developing their backcountry skills and expand their knowledge of canoe tripping. Explores have the opportunity to experience some of Northern Ontario’s most pristine land scapes while being supported in a tight knit, small-group environment.
The group spends the first two days at John Island, learning safety and paddling skills from their leaders. Campers are not required to have any prior experience however this program is intended to be the more challenging of the two camper tripping programs (Sea-Kayakers and Explorer Canoe). Explorers will also have the opportunity to participate in some all-camp activities and traditional camp program areas such as high ropes or waterfront activities.
On trip, the Explorers will find themselves immersed in one of the many breathtaking routes that Northern Ontario has to offer. Leaders will guide them in continued skill development in navigation, backcountry cooking, site management, paddling, and portaging. Travelling 15-25km per day gives the group plenty of time to explore their surroundings and enjoy each other’s company. Days often finish sitting around the campfire or looking up at the starry August sky.
Participants will find themselves amazed by what they can do, especially with the support of their new friends! Explorer Canoe Trippers develop self-confidence and learn how to encourage others to do the same.
