Job Title: Learning Specialist
Reports to: Inclusive Workforce Project Manager
Hours of Work: Part time – 20 hours/ week, Flexible hours – Evening and Weekend Work Required
Rate of Pay: $22.00/hour

Summary of work areas:

The Learning Specialist is a compassionate, learner-centred educator with a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice. This role supports the delivery of the Inclusive Workforce Development Project by working directly with newcomer, migrant, BIPOC, and marginalized youth to build employment readiness, confidence, and career pathways. The Learning Specialist is responsible for providing individualized learning support, career coaching, and group-based educational activities that respond to the lived realities and goals of participants. They help identify learning needs, support skill development, and guide youth through employment preparation, digital and soft skills development, and workplace readiness. The Learning Specialist also supports the delivery of innovative learning approaches, including workshop facilitation, hybrid programming, and Virtual Reality.

The Learning Specialist contributes to creating inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive learning environments. They engage with participants both individually and in group settings, track progress, collect feedback, and help refine program delivery based on participant experiences and outcomes. This position is funded through The Counselling Foundation of Canada and is well-suited for individuals entering, transitioning, or in the fields of education, career development, counselling, or community services. The ideal candidate will have relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience in education, social services, career development, or a related field, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with youth and diverse communities. 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one learning and career coaching to youth participants
  • Support participants with employment readiness, career development, sustainable employment pathways, and career planning
  • Identify individual learning needs and support the development of personalized learning and employment plans
  • Support and co-facilitate career readiness, digital skills, soft skills, and workforce development workshops
  • Assist with the delivery of Virtual Reality (VR) learning activities, including interview simulations and skills exploration
  • Foster inclusive, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed learning environments
  • Support outreach and engagement of newcomer, racialized, and marginalized youth
  • Collect participant feedback and support tracking of learning outcomes, progress, and program impact
  • Identify local labour market trends and employer needs, and align youth learning pathways with in-demand skills, training programs, and employment opportunities to support increased youth employment outcomes
  • Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and program evaluation activities 
  • Maintain accurate documentation while respecting confidentiality, privacy, and ethical standards

Requirements

  • University or College degrees in Education, Career Development, Social Services, Human Resources, Community Development, or a related field
  • Experience working with youth, newcomers, migrants, or marginalized communities considered an asset
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Some knowledge of career development, workforce readiness, or employment systems
  • Bilingual or multilingual considered an asset
  • Ability to travel to rural and parts of Northeastern Ontario such as North Bay, Espanola, Manitoulin, and Sturgeon Falls
  • Working knowledge of labour standards is considered an asset; but we are interested in candidates who are passionate, with lived experience, who are willing to share and engage
