Conservation Sudbury is seeking two (2) environmental technicians to provide assistance in the implementation of our environmental monitoring programs and trails-maintenance program at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area. Conservation Sudbury is one of Ontario’s 36 watershed-based stewardship agencies. Our main goal is to ensure healthy interaction between the watersheds, the natural environment and the local economy.
Duties
- Water related fieldwork (stream flow measurements, water quality sampling, stream assessments)
- Working with GIS layers and ground-truthing of natural areas (wetland, riparian habitat)
- Tree assessments and site visits related to tree-planting programs
- Trails maintenance (building/repairing infrastructure like boardwalks and stairs, trail tread maintenance, trail drainage, signage, brushing, and field data collection.)
- Facility maintenance (garbage, trail guide boxes and dog waste bag dispenser refilling)
- Some office duties, including data entry and management and outreach material production and editing
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor(s)
Eligibility Requirements
- Background in the areas of Resource management, engineering, architecture, Forestry, Fish and Wildlife, Geography, Environmental Programs, or Outdoor Leadership preferred
- Experience with ArcGIS, an asset
- Candidates must be between the ages of 18-29
- Ability to work outdoors, in inclement weather and over steep terrain
- G Drivers License required
Additional Information
- The Environmental Technician will be seasonally employed by Conservation Sudbury. This position will work mainly in the field, both within the Conservation Sudbury jurisdiction and out of the Lake
Laurentian Conservation Area (2309 South Bay Rd). When required, office work will be based both from home and out of the main office at 199 Larch St. Successful candidates must be able to get themselves
between the various work sites. - The maximum work period will be sixteen (16) weeks. The maximum work period will be from May 1, 2023 to August 25, 2023, inclusive.
- The Environmental Technician will be paid $15.50 per hour plus 4% vacation pay. WSIB coverage is included but no other employment benefits are provided. The normal work week will be 35 hours,
9:00a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Compensation for approved overtime will be through time-inlieu
and not cash payment. - Staff in this position report to the Conservation Lands Supervisor and the Water Resources Technologist
who will assign work and provide direction and supervision.
