YMCA Group Fitness Certifications
Purpose of the Certifications To provide people with the knowledge, skills and competencies to work or volunteer as a group fitness instructor with the YMCA or an external organization. Who Certifies YMCA Fitness Instructors are certified by a YMCA Fitness Trainer who holds the subject matter expertise at a YMCA instructor level. For example a YMCA Fitness Trainer who holds a YMCA Strength Instructor certification may deliver the YMCA Strength Instructor course, but not the YMCA Cycle Instructor course. The YMCA Instructor certification may be current or expired. External certifications are not accepted as substitutes.
Prerequisites:
- Minimum 16 years of age at the time of certification.
- Current CPR A (Adult).
- Recommended: 50 hours as a participant in desired subject matter. For example a person wanted to be a YMCA Cardio Instructor will have participated in 50 hours of cardio types of classes – Step, Boxing, Dance, etc…
