A New Chapter for the North Bay YMCA Aquatic Centre

September 9 Update

Today, the City of North Bay notified us that the contractors have encountered unexpected delays. While we don’t have a confirmed date yet, the delay could extend the reopening by approximately three weeks beyond the original timeline. We know this is disappointing—our staff can’t wait to get back in the water too!
We’re grateful for the City’s support and your patience during this time. As a result of this delay, the session for swim lessons will be shorter, with the fee reflective of this adjustment.

What’s Happening?

Thanks to a $700,000 investment from the City of North Bay, our Aquatic Centre will undergo major renovations starting July 1 and is scheduled to last 13 weeks, with a planned reopening date of Sunday, September 29. This 13-week project includes:

  • Full replacement of the pool deck floor system

  • Upgraded deck tile

  • Improved pool gutters

We’re thrilled about these improvements, which will enhance safety, accessibility, and your overall YMCA experience.

What You Can Expect During Construction

While the renovation brings exciting upgrades, we want to make you aware of a few temporary disruptions that may affect your experience in the building.

Noise + Demolition (First 30 Days)
The first month of work will involve heavy demolition, which will cause noise disruptions throughout the building. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this phase.

Accessible Entrance Changes
At times, the accessible doors at our main entrance will be temporarily unavailable. However, accessible entry will remain available via two alternate entrances. Signage will be in place to guide you.

Stay Active With Us This Summer

Even though the pool is closed, your wellness doesn’t have to be on pause:

  • Outdoor Swim Lessons at Big Moose Beach
  • Aquafit Alternatives (Arriba, Walking Group, Gentle Fit, Chair Yoga, and Yoga)
  • YThrive Fitness Support
  • Personal Training + Special Offers

Need a break instead? You’re welcome to place your membership on hold during the closure.

Or consider converting your membership fee into a donation to support YMCA programs and help others access wellness services during this time. Our team at Membership Services is here to help you choose the option that’s right for you.

Thank you for being part of the Y.  We can’t wait to welcome you back to a revitalized Aquatic Centre this fall!
