Child Care Services

Infancy to 4 Years

The YMCA is the largest non-for-profit child care provider in Canada, for over 50 years, our dedicated child care staff have been providing children with the support they need to make a seamless transition into full day Kindergarten. At our licensed child care centres, our Registered Early Childhood Educators, Assistants Educators or Physical Literacy Specialists partner with parents to support their child’s development and provide families with the security of knowing that their child is in a safe and nurturing environment during these formative years.

Our YMCA Playing to Learn™ curriculum is designed to help young children discover the world through play and imagination, our YMCA Playing to Learn™ curriculum offers kids an opportunity to develop their confidence, self-direction and self-regulation. Using play as the primary learning medium, children are introduced to literacy, numeracy, arts, science, and more, while in our care to ensure a smooth transition into primary school.

Our child care centres operate, Monday to Friday, opening as early as 6:30 am and closing as late as 6:00 pm, year-round, with many of our locations offering after-hours care. We provide a nutritious lunch and morning and afternoon snacks prepared by our on-site cook or caterer in accordance with the Canada Food Guide.
YMCA child care programs are licensed by the Ministry of Education and follow the Ministry’s Policy Statement on programming and pedagogy, which includes, “How Does Learning Happen?” Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years and Early Learning for Every Child Today (ELECT).
